James Wagner considers it a privilege to walk alongside people facing internal and interpersonal adversity. Life can throw us into confusion which brings us to a place of seeking clarity through curiosity and compassion. James believes that collaboratively the client and counsellor can create a warm connection for healing, hope, and wholeness.

Our Work Together

James has 30 years of caregiving experience spanning communities of poverty to prosperity with individuals, couples, and groups collaboratively addressing life’s challenges to gradually grow by making sense of painful experiences.  James counsels from a systemic perspective, marriage and family therapy orientation, targeting the client’s emotions in order to connect more satisfyingly with self and others as they gradually grow.

James is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), certified Prepare and Enrich Facilitator of pre-marital and development counselling, holds a Masters of Divinity from Regent College with an emphasis on spiritual care, additional non degree studies in Marriage and Family Therapy from Associated Canadian Theological Schools, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Ohio State University.

James is dedicated to serving clients of diverse culture, gender, age, value structure inclusively and compassionately. He considers it a privilege of living and working on the traditional, ancestral and
unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.

    Individual Therapy

    James practices person focused therapy with people who seek help when their experience of life becomesconfusing or painful emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually.

    Couples Therapy

    James considers it a delight to join with couples working on their relationship that may need something as complicated as repair or basic as renewal.

    Family Therapy

    Families go through incidental crisis or developmental change causing chaos. James considers it a privilege to bring perspective and order to families in different measures of pain longing for possiblity.

    Group Therapy

    Sometimes individual therapy creates opportunities for growth with others experiencing similar life challenges. James leads groups for clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, marriage preparation and marriage renewal.
